WI Quiz, 2019
The Final
Following the first round of the quiz ,(see Jill's report below), your team of four took part in the final at Comberbach on Friday 5th April. We were hoping for the best, but not expecting too much....it's meant to be fun, after all!
As with the first heats, there were 8 rounds, each with 10 questions, again all on a different theme. The themes were as follows: Pot Luck, Science, Places, History, Fashion, Seconds out, Books and ......Play it again Sam (self -explanatory...each answer had to include the name Sam).
The questions this evening were a great deal more challenging than those in the first heat. We gave it our best shot, could have kicked ourselves occasionally, missing answers which we should have known, but we did not disgrace ourselves, coming 7th equal out of twenty.
Here are some of the questions : (answers shown below)
1. What part of the body is called the hallux ? ( we knew this one)
2. How many bones are in the skeleton? (we missed this one)
3. Which city in England had the Roman name Eboracum? (we got this wrong)
4. What item of clothing is collected by a grabatologist? (not many people knew this . including us!)
The winning team was from Helsby Hillside, with a score of 66, and your Kelsall team scored 58.
Answers;
1. the big toe
2. 206
3. York
4. ties

The First Round
A team of 4 from Kelsall WI (Evelyn Cragg-Hine, Joan Edwards, Jill Martin and Anne Tonge) went to the WI Quiz first round at Tarvin Community Centre on 18th March.
As usual, there were 8 rounds of 10 questions, with each round being a different theme. The first few rounds were relatively straight-forward, but the later rounds became more tricky.
It's not often that 100 WI ladies are quiet, but you could almost hear the cogs whirring as we all cogitated the answers! By the end of the evening, Kelsall came 3rd, despite scoring 75/80.
Some of the questions we missed were: (answers at bottom of the page)
1. Who was the US President at end of WW2. We should have got this!
2. Name the missing Teletubby: TinkyWinky, Dipsy, La-La, Noo-Noo, XX?
3. What does PCSO stand for?
We thought it was all over, but as we were leaving, we were called for tiebreak after the team placed second noticed that they had been given a point for a question they had answered incorrectly. The tie-break question was 'what year was Lord Mountbatten murdered?'.
We weren't close enough, so didn't get second place. However, we later found out that we have got through to the Quiz final in April as one of the highest-scoring losing teams.
