Forest Group Darts Evening 18th September 2014.
For the first time, Kelsall WI has fielded a darts team, for a competition held for the 10 WI s which make up the Forest Group. The reason for this "first" was because the Forest Group is currently being run by members of Kelsall WI , Marian Nicholas, Pat Symms and Ethel Addis, and it was felt that we at Kelsall should show willing and provide a team!
Our team was put together and managed by Pat Towey, who organised some practices in her garage. She had borrowed a dart board and darts from her grandsons, who were very excited about the fact that their grandmother was about to become a competitive darts player, and advised that we should aim for nothing less than winning the tournament. This was never really a possibility, as none of us could take it seriously!
After a few practices, Pat could no longer play, as she was suffering severe pain in her playing arm, so Cathy Peel was brought in, in Pat's place. The team now was made up of Ro Cowell, Margaret Davies, Anne Tonge and Cathy, with Pat no longer player/manager, but manager and main team supporter. We completed our preparation for the big event with a couple more practices on Cathy's new dartboard in her very comfortable converted goat shed.
Then the evening of the competition was upon us! It was held on September 18th at Bunbury Pavilion, and was arranged by the Bunbury members.
There was a large attendance,as there were 7 teams playing, plus supporters. The teams were Little Budworth, Peckforton and Beeston , Duddon & Clotton, Eaton, Kelsall, Tarvin and Darnall & Wettenhall
Marian had put in a great deal of effort organising the evening, assisted by Pat and Ethel, together with the aforementioned Bunbury members. Many people had brought food, which was eaten after the event...... an abundance of delicious cakes and sandwiches.
Great fun was had by all who attended , and we four from Kelsall, ably supported by our manager Pat T , did not disgrace ourselves! For our first attempt at a competitive darts match, we came third! Duddon and Clotton were the winners , with 10 points, followed by Peckforton and Beeston, with 7.
Utkinton ran the draw which made a profit of £58.91.
The whole evening raised a total of £62.96 for Forest Group funds.
Marian Nicholas and Francis Woollam thanked all who had helped make it a successful evening.
