The Forest Group's 70th Birthday
2017
On Monday 9th October,(2017 ),the Forest Group celebrated 70 years of existence within the Cheshire Federation. The three organisers of the Forest Group , Marian N as president, Pat S as secretary, and Ethel as treasurer had run the group for 4 years, and this was to be their 'Swansong', apart from the carol service in December, which will definitely be the last event under their leadership.
A great deal of work had gone into the evening, with each of the participating institutes providing a display , made up of their banner, archive material and craft items , and information about their various activities.
Marian welcomed us all to the party...about 115 ladies attended .... and gave us some history about the Forest Group . A light Supper was provided , comprising soup, sandwiches and a dainty trifle. After the supper, tea and coffee were served, together with a slice of the delicious cake, made specially for the occasion by Pat. Marian cut the cake, together with our WI advisor, Georgina Denny, who had given a short speech beforehand.
After the meal , we were royally entertained by the Vale Royal Singers , led by Margaret Corlett , who had gone to great lengths to choose songs that would be appropriate for the evening. The choir was excellent, hugely enjoyable and were roundly applauded.
Following the choir, we were treated to an procession of "Hats with a History", where a representative of each WI wore a hat which was special to them, and told us about the history of the hat and what it meant to them. This part if the evening was very entertaining and extremely interesting with our own Jean C wearing the riding hat which she had worn for about forty years during her work with the Riding For the Disabled Association.
There was also a raffle held during the evening.
I think that everyone there had a thoroughly enjoyable time, which made all the hard work of the committee worthwhile . Marian, Pat and Ethel were given a huge thank you for their commitment and hard work during the last 4 years, and the Forest Group will now continue into the next 70 years under new leadership .
