DENMAN COLLEGE IS NOW ONLINE!
|
Denman College was founded by the National Federation of Women's Institutes in 1948 as a residential adult education college at Marcham in Oxfordshire. It was named after Lady Denman, the first chairwoman of the WI Federation. The college was open to not only members but non-members also, and to both female and male students. The courses were between one and four nights in duration and day courses were also offered. In the past a number of our members have attended the college, studying such diverse subjects as bread making, jewellery making, Chinese silk painting, willow weaving, stone sculpture, singing and the history of Oxford to name but a few.
Denman at Home courses are open to all and cover a variety of interests from craft to history talks, from wellbeing to hobbies. Most last about an hour.
Following an extensive consultation with members in 2022 following the sale of Denman College, we are endeavouring to ensure that we develop courses which will be flexible, accessible and unique as well as free to our members, whilst safeguarding the proceeds of the sale in a permanent endowment.
