EVENTS AND OUTINGS 2024
Wednesday 17th July GARDEN PARTY
After what felt like weeks of wet weather we had everything crossed as the date of our annual garden party approached; but somehow it all turned out for the best and the sun shone on Judy's garden as we all gathered for an afternoon of fizz, food, fun and friendship. This year we had decided to let caterers take the strain so everyone could enjoy the afternoon as the Committee were kept busy pouring drinks and taking round platters of sandwiches, sausage rolls and cakes. Dorothy had one of her famous quizzes ready to keep us in check and there were prizes for three lucky ticket holders, as well as a bouquet for Judy who had volunteered her beautiful garden for the day. As an added bonus it was lovely to see some of our members who are not able to come to regular meetings and catch up with them. Thanks to everyone who made it a lovely afternoon.

Sunday 7th July - KELFEST!
Many thanks to all our members who generously donated items for our Tombola stall at Kelfest this year. We had a lovely day meeting lots of people and raising over £130 for our funds. But our main aim was to be part of our village community which we did very successfully. |
June: Royal Cheshire County Show. Our member Mary has been very successful this year gaining a Second Prize for her delicious Lemon Curd, plus a Highly Commended for her crochet cowl. Not only that but she spent all day in a caravan making sandwiches for the event! She brought her entries along to our July meeting but I'm putting the photos on here to separate them from the Scottish Evening. Brilliant as always Mary.

Tuesday 12th June Kelsall Primary School
Pam is our Climate and Environment committee member and she and Pat went along to meet the Forestry Teacher at the primary school who explained that the year 6 pupils are replanting a wild area and refurbishing a pond as their legacy project. Kelsall WI are part-funding this project as part of our Great Big Green week, and here are some pictures taken by Pat at the beginning of the work. There will be more information and photographs as the project develops.

Wednesday 12th June - Flower Power!
Seven WI ladies enjoyed a flower arranging workshop with Trish Pollard in St. Philips church Lounge. We each used our own foliage but Trish supplied the flowers. It is amazing how we all followed the same instructions, with the same flowers, and produced such different arrangements. It was a lovely morning and we were all very pleased with the results. Thank you Trish.

Thursday 9th May.
Sixteen ladies enjoyed a very informative visit to Moorcroft pottery. We had a guided tour of the factory where very talented staff demonstrated each stage of the making process. Our guide was very knowledgeable and we were all fascinated.
The group moved on to Middleport for lunch in the Arden Room, followed by a self guided tour of the heritage trail. The pottery is a charity and has benefitted from the support of the King when he was Prince of Wales. The steam engine which powered the factory until the 1970s has been restored and was named Duchess after the Duchess of Cornwall.
There is a student potter on site, part of the University of Staffordshire where practical pottery skills are taught. The heritage trail included history of the pottery industry and how the workers lived.

Wednesday 10th January 2024 - Coffee Morning.
This morning we held our customary January Coffee Morning in St. Philips Church during a very cold spell of weather. In spite of that our members turned out in numbers and we also welcomed half a dozen visitors too, so our Raffle and Sales Table were well supported. As always there were plenty of cakes to go with the tea and coffee so a happy and chatty morning was enjoyed by all, with the added benefit of over £300 being raised for our funds. Many thanks to everyone who attended, gave generously and worked hard to make it a success.
