Red Letter Day afternoon tea
On the afternoon of Friday 27th August about 30 of our members gathered together in the garden of one of our members for our summer fundraising event. Despite our misgivings about the weather, and whether we would be able to sit outside, the sun shone brilliantly on the garden of Jean and Marshall Ryder. The garden looked stunning and our members were able to spend the entire afternoon, sitting in glorious sunshine, at the tables which had been spread across the garden. The theme for the afternoon was “A Red Letter Day” and our members had been invited to interpret this any way they wished. Some ladies came wearing red, some wore an outfit which they had worn on a special occasion, and others wore red letters hanging from their necks! Everyone had made a great effort to dress for the occasion.
Members were greeted with a cold drink on arrival followed by an afternoon tea comprising sandwiches, meringues, strawberries and shortbread followed by a cup of tea. While eating, drinking and chatting, the ladies took part in a quiz involving questions related to anything to be found in the garden. Prizes of spring bulbs were awarded to the winners. The afternoon ended with the raffle being drawn.
It was a very enjoyable afternoon made all the more so by the good weather and the perfect surroundings. Grateful thanks must go to Jean and Marshall for providing their lovely garden for the event, and to the committee for working so hard in making the afternoon such a success. The amount raised on the afternoon will be posted at a later date.
